Some may think owning a Child Care centre must be the perfect job for a mum. This could not be further from the truth. Being a mum and running my two centres are two completely different jobs and mixing the two is actually very difficult. I work at the opposite centre to where my children are being cared for or hide from them to ensure they do not have to separate from me more than once in the day. They are dropped off and collected just like all other children and have no idea that I work there. This worked with Piper until about 6 months ago, she is now ok with me being in the building and gets about her day with her friends until I am finished and we go home together. Even so it is not often that I work where she is.

                                            madden day care

Madden is my youngest child and little brother to Piper 3.5years. Madden hasn’t attended a day at Treasured Tots as yet because I am blessed enough to have family who want to care for him. It has been so wonderful to be able to leave the house ready for work and give 100% to my Centre’s whilst I am there.

I was fortunate enough to have this with Piper also. Piper started at my Bibra Lake Centre when she was 12 months old. It was the Best thing I could have done for her development. Socially, emotionally and cognitively she blossomed. Not to say it wasn’t a rocky start of settling her in. It takes time, consistency and lots of positivity from all involved in the transition from home to Child Care. Piper had some separation anxiety which I saw quickly diminish once I was out of sight (hiding in my office). Piper is now 3.5 years old and some days can still have reservations at drop off. This is very normal for some children and I ensure I always make enough time to settle her in and give lots of cuddles. Always once I am out of sight she returns to her happy, confident self. I feel so privileged that I get to witness this for myself. I can watch from a place my children can’t see me at any time of the day and see how engaged and happy they are with their Educator’s and friends. As a mum I feel this it is so important to know your child is ok before you can concentrate on what you are doing for the day which is why we send pictures to our families once their child has settled in.

Madden is turning 1 this weekend!  I truly can’t believe how fast the year has gone. His first day at Treasured Tots is tomorrow. Even though I still do not require the care for Madden I feel it so important to start him now. In my years of experience the younger a child starts Child Care the easier is it for them to transition into group care. I actually now wish I started Madden earlier. In the last few months he has become wildly aware of us passing him to anyone he isn’t familiar with and protests loudly about this. All of this aside I know that as soon as Madden settles and builds a trusting relationship with his Educators he will absolutely love making friends, engaging in all of the exciting and interesting activities and TT will feel like his home away from home. I will commit to take Madden 2-3 times per week to ensure the settling in process is as easy for him as possible.

I am so blessed to have the choice of two centres  filled with my amazing Educator’s, but will still find it hard leaving Madden or the first time. My Team of Educators are wonderful at reassuring and nurturing mum as well as bub- thank goodness.

We are going to document Madden’s journey to settling into TT and I look forward to sharing it with you all. If you have any questions about settling your child into care please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
