Easy Activities to keep your child entertained indoors on these wet winter days.
Keep your children entertained indoors in this wet weather with these easy to follow activities..
Sensory Play is such an important part of Early Childhood. Children of all ages benefit from using their senses and creativity and we as Parent’s and Educator’s need to ensure we are providing a range of different and exciting activities for our children to engage in daily. Sensory play benefits children’s learning in some of the following ways;
It can build nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more difficult learning tasks.
It's beneficial for language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, emotions and social interaction.
It helps with the development and enhancement of memory.
It aids in calming an anxious child.
It helps a child learn sensory attributes, such as hot or cold, hard or soft, and sticky or slimy.
The following activities will keep your children occupied for hours and are super simple to make.
Moon Sand
8 cups of flour
1 cup of baby oil
A couple drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
Mix all ingredients together until combined as much as possible and enjoy hours of fun making shapes and letting the sand slip between fingers and hands. This Sand is very therapeutic and calming. Adults enjoy this one just as much as the kids.
Coloured rice
Rice
Food colouring
Several large plastic bags
Pour rice into plastic bags, add food colouring. Close the bag and shake until the colour has mixed, add more colouring to achieve desired colour. Add the rice to a large container and add items of your child interest. The children can enjoy burying items, pouring, animal world play and much more. Let their imaginations run free.
